2014 Project Winner: Rock Chalk Recycle

Description: Rock Chalk Recycle, a partnership between KU Athletics and KU Recycling, diverted over 34,000 lbs. of waste from the landfill in its first year by implementing recycling and composting at all KU Athletics facilities. Rock Chalk Recycle also educated fans and volunteers on the importance of recycling and compost in an attempt to encourage similar behaviors at future sporting events and at home.

Quote from Nomination: "The collaborative work done by Athletics and KU recycling on the RCR initiative is by far the biggest effort I’ve seen to promote sustainability and generate/divert material. An effort such as this is the kind of thing that changes perceptions. I cannot wait to see how high they can take this initiative in the years to come."
