Center Bike Lane Concept

The KU Bicycle Advisory Committee is made up of students, staff, and faculty from the KU community. The Committee was formed during the summer of 2012 as a means of helping implement the bicycle related goals of the Sustainability Plan, published in the fall of 2011.

The following are the charges set forth by the KU Bicycle Advisory Committee.

  • Implement the bicycle-related strategies of the Building Sustainable Traditions campus sustainability plan
  • Identify existing resources that can be used for immediately achievable bicycle initiatives
  • Be available as an advisory body to campus bicycle-related initiatives
  • Work with campus Planning and Design & Construction Management to maintain and improve a physical environment that encourages biking
  • Collaborate with the Lawrence-Douglas County Bicycle Advisory Committee in bicycle-oriented planning initiatives
  • Assist the Center for Sustainability in answering student, staff, and faculty inquiries about bicycle programs and initiatives
  • Work to promote healthy lifestyles by encouraging all-forms of biking
  • Identify further areas of improvement that will raise KU’s rating in the League of American Bicyclists Bicycle Friendly University rating system
  • Be proactive in educating students, staff, and faculty on bike safety, rules, and etiquette and actively promote biking as a transportation mode
  • Work with Parking and Transit to increase cycling and inform a working relationship with multi-modal transportation on campus
