In order to provide guidance for ongoing volunteer maintenance of the garden, the University has established a Student Garden Advisory Board. The charges for this group include:

  • Assist with the development of an annual maintenance plan for the KU Student Rain Garden
  • Provide needed direction, expertise, and continuity for the volunteer organization responsible for ongoing rain garden maintenance
  • Make important decisions regarding major maintenance of the garden as new challenges arise
  • Respond to community inquiries about the aesthetics and purpose of the garden through direct communication and development of coordinated awareness and education efforts
  • Identify existing resources that can be used for immediate maintenance needs (e.g. tools, equipment, mulch, services) and potential funding sources for long-term maintenance as needed
  • Provide guidance for organizations pursuing similar projects in the future to ensure these efforts include responsible management plans and appropriate commitments from campus entities
